Olympic Themed Sports Day

Barfield School hosted an Olympic themed Sports Day on Friday 22nd June 2012 which witnessed wonderful Olympic dances, competitive spirit and a torch flame that didn't go out!
The Pre-Prep and Nursery children had hand-made Olympic Wreathes to wear on their heads and conducted an Olympic Dance before the competition began. The prep school participants lined up on Headmaster’s Lawn in their houses, wearing their house colours and carried colourful hand-made house banners. They watched the lighting of the ceremonial Olympic Torch, and processed around the 200m running track to Chariots of Fire. An Olympic Dance was also performed to Parents and Spectators.
Before the games began, the Head Boy and Head Girl spoke publicly about the values of the Olympic and Para Olympic Games in English and French. The children then competed in 50m, 70m, 100m, and 200m races. The field events consisted of high jump, long jump, cricket ball throwing and quoit throwing. The finale of the event was an exciting Junior and Senior 200m relay race which only just made it in to the event before the heavens opened.
The Sports Day ended with everyone singing the National Anthem. Despite the challenges of the British weather, it was a fantastic day with a huge effort put in by staff and pupils alike.
