Big Garden Birdwatch

Big Garden Birdwatch

Year 2 Bird Watching

On Tuesday afternoon 2M went for a (rather muddy!) nature walk during Forest School. We were specifically looking for birds as part of the RSBP’s ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’ which takes place this weekend. On our walk we spotted robins, blackbirds, sparrows and wood pigeons. We also spotted a few rabbits and squirrels; however, we did not catch a glimpse of the elusive Barfield barn owl! The children were encouraged to look and listen carefully to their surroundings and showed great enjoyment when they caught a glimpse of something.

We also helped the birds out during this cold weather by spreading some bird seed around the grounds. The children noticed a few nests in the trees and that there is a bird box outside the Year 2 classrooms which we hope will house some chicks this spring! Some children even made their own birdhouses and feeders with junk modelling. Please let us know if you spot anything over the weekend. Happy ‘twitching’! You can take part at home here
