"Offering our pupils the best opportunity to continue their studies from home ..."
When Boris Johnson announced to the nation that we would be entering a full National Lockdown in March 2020, the staff at Barfield School transitioned successfully over to an excellent Remote Learning platform and full timetable. Parents and pupils have been provided with access to a Remote Learning site that aims to support the family unit with ideas to manage learning at home both independently or together. We are very proud of the excellent education that we continue to offer to our pupils whilst they are studying at home.
Barfield School has welcomed children of Key Workers during the lockdowns, but the most recent one has seen our Nursery remain fully open.
The staff and teachers at Barfield School swiftly adapted to the new technology of Google Classrooms, and continued their normal service, showing their passion and committed to making Remote Learning as near to teaching in school as possible. The pupils too, have demonstrated their ability to work independently (here Izzy is dissecting a flower as part of a Science experiment while teaching her dog!) and to manage the demands of technology easily. We are delighted to offer additional mobile devices to families so that all of our pupils are online daily.
Our teachers have embraced a comprehensive method of online teaching and have maintained almost all of the normal timetable, with every lesson being live. This enables us to keep the daily routine of school life, ensuring that our pupils progress as though they were in the classroom at school, offering an excellent education, as well as continued pastoral support.
Pupils have continued morning and afternoon registrations with their Form Tutors. There is a daily assembly with the Headmaster for children in Year 3 – Year 8, and a daily story time in the afternoon for the Pre-Prep, and all teddy bears are welcome to attend! Barfield has invited visitors to attend sessions during lockdown which has included a magician and Relax Kids teaching yoga. Barfield is focused on continuing the extra-curricular activities remotely, which includes individual music lessons, LAMDA, Drama Club and even Ballet lessons.
At Barfield clear communication has always been at the heart of what we do, forming strong relationships with staff, parents and pupils. Although the National Lockdowns could have resulted in challenges in this area, we have found alternative ways to ensure that communication stays open and clear at all times.
Although the Coronavirus pandemic has made us alter our approaches to education, we are working to ‘business as usual’, ensuring that parents feel secure in the knowledge that although the method of how their child is educated may have altered, the quality of the education has not been interrupted.
