Nursery

Barfield Nursery is an Independent School nursery in Farnham. It is open weekdays 50 weeks of the years from 8am to 6.15pm with flexible options for busy parents

The Nursery offers a home from home environment and small class sizes ensure the Nursery staff know the children (and their families) really well and are able to nurture and encourage them. The individual needs of each child are met through targeted play based learning. Barfield Nursery is a private nursery  which is part of Barfield Prep School in Farnham, Surrey.

The Nursery provides a gentle introduction to school life. We welcome children into our nursery as soon as they turn two.  The Hatchlings (2 year olds), Owlets (2-3 year olds) and Owls (3-4 year olds) are very much a part of the school and  make full use of Barfield’s extensive grounds with access to a wide range of outdoor learning experiences.  The children grow plants and vegetables in the school garden and the Nursery Dig area, where they are free to explore and develop their green fingers!

Children are exposed to a refreshingly varied curriculum from an early age and are taught by specialist teachers for Swimming, which takes place in the indoor heated pool, Music, French and Forest Schools.

Nursery children are integrated into the main school in a careful and considered way, gradually getting to know more members of the school staff, such as the Headmaster, the Sports teacher and the Music and French.  The children use the dining hall to eat hot lunches every day and take part in whole school events such as whole school assemblies, Lower School Nativity play, Easter bonnet parade, Sports Day and shared reading, where the older children come down into the Nursery to read to the children.  Our Nursery is very much part of our school.

Life in the Nursery is busy and varied.  These are just some of the activities the children enjoy:

  • Indoor heated swimming pool (Lessons every other week in Owlets and once a week in Owls)

  • Music and Movement

  • Forest School and Toddler in the Woods for Hatchlings

  • Cooking in the Cookhouse

  • Visiting the library

  • Sandy play area with pirate ship and mud kitchen

  • Visits from guests including the Fire Brigade and mobile farms!

  • Planting in the ‘Dig’

Please Note: The Nursery is the first phase of Barfield School and it is expected that all Nursery children will progress through the school.
